Know the Elapsed Time
Dressings do not behave like IV lines or urinary catheters. They sit flat against skin, they manage moisture, and there is nowhere to place a label except on the dressing itself — which means the standard Timertag Pro label is not suitable. We developed one specifically for dressings.
Why There is No NFC Chip
Every other Timertag Pro label carries an NFC inlay. On a dressing, that inlay creates two problems we could not design around.
The first is MRI. An NFC inlay is a metal antenna, and metal does not go into the scanner. On an IV line or a catheter the label has somewhere else to sit; on a dressing it does not. Every trip to MRI would mean removing the label and disturbing a dressing that was not due to be changed. We were not prepared for our label to be the reason a dressing came off early.
The second is moisture. The inlay is too large for a label of this size. It covers too much of the footprint to leave meaningful room for wicking, however the adhesive is printed.
So we removed it. The dressing label is QR only, and nothing is lost at the bedside: any smartphone camera reads it. No tap, no reader, and no device to issue to staff.
A Label Designed for the Dressing Surface
At 16 × 16 mm (0.63 × 0.63 in), it is small enough to sit on the dressing without crowding the site or obscuring the wound bed. The medical-grade adhesive is pattern-printed rather than applied edge to edge, leaving channels that allow moisture to wick out from between the dressing and the label instead of pooling beneath it.

At the Bedside

Apply the label to the edge of the dressing, on the fabric border.

Scan the QR code with any smartphone camera. You will be prompted to "Activate" the timer.

Scan again at any time — the label shows the elapsed time since activation.
